Performing for The Cheatcodes!
What’s unique about being a magician is that I can perform anytime, anywhere. What matters is context, technique, and a connection with your audience. To this day, the greatest performance I’ve ever witnessed was on a plane, when the gentleman sitting next to me made a coin appear from the window. That was the trick that introduced me to the world of magic.
This type of close-up magic is one of my favorites. I recently had the opportunity to perform for the Cheat Codes, the DJ trio that put out Platinum singles “Sex” and “No Promises.” A few weeks ago, I met Trevor and Matt backstage in San Diego before one of their shows. Both of them have worked and produced music with Demi Lovato, Wiz Khalifa, Fetty Wap, and other legendary artists.
The club was dark, loud, and chaotic, but I still captured their attention and sparked their imaginations. It doesn't take a massive production to make the magic happen, literally. Thirty minutes before their show, I performed a 20 minute set for their friends and family.
Though performing on stage is one of my favorite types of performance, I’m also drawn to this type of magic -- magic that happens in the smaller moments, in intimate settings, where friends are watching very closely. When it comes to magic and mentalism, “the closer they look, the less they see.”
If you haven’t before, definitely check out the Cheat Codes’s music!
